THE NATIONAL PLASTICS CENTER CELEBRATES NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK
LEOMINSTER, MA (February 8, 2006) – The National Plastics Center will celebrate National Engineers Week, Wednesday, February 22 through Friday, February 24, with activities for students in grades K- 10. Younger children will participate in hands on activities developed by the WGBH children’s science programs, “Zoom into Engineering,” and, among other activities, make rockets, catapults, slime, and puff mobiles. Students in grades 6-10 will explore computerized robotics with Lego® Mindstorms™ robotics systems. Working in teams of two or three, youngsters design, construct and program microcomputers sold by the Lego® company using computers and the familiar modular Lego components to build the robots.
In addition, each day visitors of all ages can participate in special activities, including a Walkalong Glider demonstration and lab in which the students will make a Tumblewing Walkalong Glider, a robotics demonstration by the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Robotics Team, and a presentation on engineering U.S. military food packaging.
National Engineers Week programming is scheduled from 1:00- 4:00 each day. Admission is $6 per day or $15 for all three days and includes all activities. Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited and can be made by calling the center at 978.537.9529.
